Tips for Drinking Healthily Over the Weekend
Alcohol binging is never good, especially if you want to maintain a fit and healthy body. However, weekly indulgences can be acceptable as long as you do it right. Today, we’re going to share some tips on how to drink healthily over weekends. You’ll be surprised to know that fruity drinks are much more sinful than regular alcohols.
- Avoid those cocktails that look like colossal desserts.
The size should be your first hint. If you see your cocktail served in a large glass, with the actual beverage made of numerous ingredients and topped with sweet and creamy indulgences, no doubt that’s loaded with calories. Enjoy more food and beverage by skipping that colossal sweet.
- Swap fruity cocktails with martinis.
Skinny martinis are simple drinks. Martinis made only of dry vermouth, vodka, and olives has low sugar content and almost no preservatives. Flavoured cocktails like White Russian can have 450 calories for every glass, Long Island Ice teas are high as 600 calories, and Mud Slides have around 500 calories. A glass of skinny martini is your best choice.
- Ditch the mixers, go straight for flavoured drinks.
Most Singapore bars serve mixers, which come straight from packs and cans. Therefore, drinking such drinks is taking in preservatives, sugars, artificial flavourings, and great amount of calories. To avoid all of these, pick a flavoured alcohol instead, such as coconut rum on ice rather than piña colada with fatty coconut milk.
- Always opt for the best alcohol.
Keep in mind that these alcohols are considered good if you don’t drink 20 glasses of them in one night. These alcohols are: white and red wine, scotch, brandy, whisky, cognac, light beer (if you really have to drink beer), and wine spritzers. Notice that there is nothing within the range of fruity mixers.
- Drink water in between shots.
While it’s easy to get carried away and gulp down drink after drink, having a glass of water in between shots is your best way to avoid hangover the next day. Besides, you don’t really have to drink that much to have a good time.
Drinking and having fun with friends is not a bad idea. In fact, it is recommended to relax and unwind from the pressure we experience in our day-today lives. However, we also have to remember to do so in moderation. Drinking smartly and responsibly is important not just for your health, but for your safety as well.
